1. Wilms' Tumor is the most common cancer in the urinary tract of children.
2. Trauma is the leading cause of death in children in the USA. The kidney is the most common organ in the urogenital tract to be injured.
3. Sexual abuse among children represents approximately 9% of all reported cases of child abuse. Boys make up approximately 15% of the reported victims. Fifteen to 38% of all adults recall being sexually abused as a child.
4. In a child with recurrent or persistent vaginal drainage or bleeding, consider the possibility of a "foreign body" in the vagina. The most common foreign body in prepubertal vaginas are wads of toilet paper, which may appear as a grayish mass.
5. Pediatric inguinal hernias are more common on the right side. The right side occurs 60%, the left 30%, and bilateral 10%.
6. Six to ten percent of testis cancers originate in the cryptorchid testis.
7. The combination of elevated basal gonadotropin levels and lack of testosterone response to hCG stimulation is probably diagnostic of "anorchism".
8. High-resolution Color Doppler Ultrasonography is the diagnostic study of choice for ruling out testis torsion.
9. MRI has proved useful in evaluating ambiguous genitalia and determining appropriate treatment.
10. Circumcision is the most common operation performed on males in the USA. It is a safe and simple operation when performed by an experienced surgeon. It may protect against urinary tract infections, STDs, and cancer of the penis and cervix.
